Collection: Wood Carvings

The wood carvings are made out of a special wood called copal. This wood has large quantities of water, thus it is very malleable and easy to carve. Due to the large quantities of water and all the coats of paint, the average time to make a wood carving is 8 to 10 months. The Alebrijes mainly come from two towns in Oaxaca called San Martin Tilcajete and Santiago Arrazola. The people from these towns hand carve and paint the Alebrijes.
