Neikame

This is an extraordinary Yarn & painting that measures 12" x 12".

Neikame is an exceptional artist from Guadalupe Ocotan, in the municipality of La Yesca, Nayarit. A teacher by trade, he did a stint in the Mexican Army and after almost losing his culture went back into the Sierra. After that, he studied with his grandfather who taught him the way of the elders. Today Neikame believes his art is a reflection of how the Huichol feel in the new world order. Thus, his surreal style is undoubtedly taking Huichol art in a whole new direction.

Yarn paintings are one of the most recognizable artistic traditions of the Wixárika (Huichol) people of western Mexico. Created by pressing brightly colored yarn into beeswax-covered wooden boards, these intricate works depict sacred symbols, animals, deities, and visions inspired by spirituality and ceremonies. Each piece tells a story connected to nature, ancestral knowledge, and the Wixárika worldview, preserving cultural traditions that have been passed down through generations.
