Jacobo y Maria Angeles are a couple from San Martin Tilcajete, Oaxaca. One of the most famous villages for the traditional wood carvings, colorful sculptures of imaginative creatures. Many of the colors used on their wood carvings evolved from natural pigments.
For instance, the creation of colors from unexpected sources. These sources vary from plants such as pomegranate seeds, to lime juice or sodium bicarbonate. These elements become applied with painstaking detail to the wood carvings created by her husband. Together, their individual talents create a series of unique artistic statements. T
he wood carvings are all adorned with geometric patterns that are derived from the Zapotec culture of the region. Jacobo y Maria Angeles artwork is characterized by their incredibly detailed wood carvings which are inspired by Zapotec culture.
