Artist Spotlight: Hilaria Chavez Carrillo
Hilaria Chavez Carrillo, comes from a small ranch called las Naranjas, located in the Sierra Madre Mountains of Western Mexico. Hilaria Chavez Carrillo is the widow of the late Jose Benitez Sanchez. He was undoubtedly the best recognized Wixarika artist. There's not a museum that's done an exhibition of Huichol art without at least one of his pieces. During his last years, Hilaria worked hand in hand with the master. He taught her the importance of color, and how to create depth by combining and contrasting colors, and also how to create motion. Benitez is gone, but his style will live on in the work of Hilaria.
